En tur til Beirut - Se besværlighederne.

I anledning af, at en finsk turist (Andreas) ville tage en tur fra Damascus - til Beirut, fandt jeg flg. korrespondance på Internettet:

1.     Hey there!
It is very possible to go to Lebanon and back to Syria in one day, the trip should take you 2 hours each way!! the roads are very ok now.. Except if it rains and snows then this would be a big problem, roads get blocked by snow in Lebanon.
Usually if you try to take a taxi, you share it with others of course, it should cost you 10 $ each way. Just go to the taxi station there. You can take a bus, it would be for 6 $ I think or so.. I would take a taxi myself.. faster and you don’t wait a lot at the border!
If you get a multiple visa entrance, hopefully, to Syria, I think, you can surely get a visa at the Lebanese border to go in, they are giving visas very easily now at the airport, so should be the same at the border, I will double check for you and send you back a PM if not the case, I doubt it though..
You should try to have a 24 hours stay at least in Beirut if you can, it is worth it..

2.     As Dalia says pretty easy, you will though need a multiple entry visa for Syria-officialy you need a visa issued in your country of residence before entering Syria although for some people there is little problem getting one at the border-double check first.
The journey can be a little slow at times due to traffic/weather and diversions due to some holes in a bridge or two.
You will have to wait for the cab to fill up with passengers-again depending on time of day etc, I waited an hour and half in Beirut last week-you can pay for the other seats though at $10 a seat.
Lebanese visa for 48hrs is free for most passports.

3.    Thanks Dalia and John for the info! I’ll try my best to find time to go. My schedule is such that I will only have one full day tops, so early morning from Damascus and back in the evening. Seems like a lot of trouble, but I just want to see Beirut. There’s something about the place… I can’t just be a few hours from Beirut and NOT go there. I’ll be happy with a 6 hour stroll in the city with my camera.
I’m taking up my studies in arabic later this year and hopefully I’ll have a chance to spend a lot more time in Beirut in the future.
John – I had a look at your website. Great, great work.

5.    Greetings from Beirut – sorry Dalia, had no time to contact you. We’ll meet next time. In Hamra right now, leaving for Damascus in a couple of hours. Beirut is great! I will come back, and soon. Thanks for all the logistical info, everything has been very smooth. Now my multiple Syrian visa is all used up (wen’t to Amman earlier) so let’s hope the syrians are kind at the border.

Well no worries, next time hopefully.. I am not going to be in Hamra until later this afternoon, have some stuff to finish. Otherwise we would have met for a quick tea.. Though I spent some 6 hours yesterday there, the weather was really beautiful, hope you didn’t miss it!!!
