Entry fees across the country had been cut in half. All the former S£300 fees for monuments, sites and museums are now S£150. At least this is the case on major sites such as Krak des Chevaliers, Temple of Bel, Saint Simeon Basilica and others.

There are internet/email facilities gradually sprouting up everywhere. The tourist info can help you find them in Aleppo, Lattakia, Hama, Damascus, etc. Pay from US$1 to US$2 an hour. They all officially go through a controlled proxy server in Damascus which blocks access to most western email and news sites. However, techie cafes can switch the proxy server to bypass this and can mask the IP address so that the Syrian authorities can't trace them. This gives you access to everything, though it is obviously illegal.
